“Don’t shoot what it looks like. Shoot what it feels like.”
Anyone can take a camera to the streets and click the shutter. But when it comes to creating an engaging street photo that tell a story, well that is an art form! We will learn what makes a street photo interesting and how to set ourselves up to capture candid decisive moments.
We are going to look at some photos from some very well known street photographers. Here is where our inspiration will begin! Each day we will head out to the streets with a technique in mind. For example, one day we will focus on close ups and another day on shadows or reflections. We will scout the Park Blocks, Pioneer Square and the Pearl District in search of interesting subjects. Then will visit the digital darkroom for a beginner tutorial on editing your images. This is where you will also learn how to size and export your images for online sharing. As a group we will learn from one another by seeing each others photos and talking about them. Upon class completion you will be given ideas for how you can continue growing your skills & your street photography portfolio.
